3 Things To Do On a Rainy Costa Mesa Day

Posted on February 29, 2012 | 6:00am | Travel Costa Mesa

Southern California seems to be perpetually blessed with great weather all year round, but every now and again even Orange County suffers from a rainy day. If you are visiting Costa Mesa and your beach day plans are ruined by inclement weather, don’t despair. There are plenty of great, indoor activities with which to fill your newfound free time, and still make the most of your vacation!

Pacific Symphony

What better excuse to stay indoors on a rainy day then with a trip to the symphony? The Pacific Symphony is Orange County’s orchestra and the third largest symphony in California. With more than 100 concerts a year, music lovers of every generation and genre preference are sure to find a concert to enjoy. Programs are held at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall and include classical masterworks, pops concerts, chamber music, Saturday morning concerts for children and parents and a holiday performance of Handel’s Messiah. The Symphony also has a summer outdoor series at Irvine’s Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.

The Discovery Science Center is an interactive children’s museum with 120 exhibits and several themed areas such as Discovery Stadium, Techno Arts, Air & Space, Perception, Dynamic Earth, Quake Zone, the Digital Lab and KidStation. Two of the most popular permanent exhibits include a Flight Simulator where you can experience simulated flights and test your flying skills, and a Pitching Cage that tests how hard people can throw.
