Moon Park

You don’t have to be an astronaut to walk on the moon at  Moon Park in Costa Mesa.  A giant concrete dome, complete with various sized “craters” is the highlight and inspiration for the name of the park.  The park was created to commemorate the moon landing on July 20, 1969.  There are also two different playgrounds and a tire swing for children’s entertainment. 

The park is tucked away behind a neighborhood off of Gisler Avenue.  However, there is easy access from the Santa Ana River Bike Trail.  The moon is just a few “short steps” from the path.  Due to its proximity to the bike path, it’s common to see cyclists lounging in the shade or just stopping for a short break. 

Moon Park is Take note when trying to map the park that it may be labeled as “Suburbia Park” in some online and smartphone mapping features.  

There are several picnic tables scattered throughout the park, but be advised, there are no public restrooms available.  Moon park is a great place to spend an afternoon, especially for all of those young astronauts out there.
