The Costa Mesa Playhouse concludes its 50th season with the acclaimed Broadway musical “Little Women,” playing May 29 through June 28.
For the final production of its 50th season, the Costa Mesa Playhouse presents the acclaimed Broadway musical “Little Women,” with music by Jason Howland, lyrics by Mindi Dickstein, and book by Allan Knee. It is directed by Aurora J. Culver with musical direction by Jared Pugh.
Based on Louisa May Alcott’s semi-autobiographical novel, the musical follows the adventures of the four March sisters — brassy aspiring writer Jo, romantic Meg, pretentious Amy, and kind-hearted Beth, as well as their beloved mother, Marmee, at home in Concord, Mass., while the family patriarch is away serving in the Civil War.
As the play is set primarily in the March house’s attic, where Jo finds the inspiration for her stories, so will the setting of the attic inform the scenes of this production. Each new location will be brought to life by the actors pulling elements of the attic out to reenact the events of the March family’s humble beginnings.
The cast includes Mazie Wilson, Deva Marie Gregory, Maggie Goodman, Lauren Oseas, Emily Price, Stephanie Thomas, Joey Nestra, Matt Acuna, Hans Kelsen and Jim Pack.
Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm, May 29 through June 28. Ticket prices range from $18 for the May 29 preview performance to $22 (adults) and $20 (seniors/students) for the May 30 gala, which includes a catered reception following the performance. Tickets for other performances are $20 for adults, $18 for students and seniors (60+). Groups of 10 or more are $13 each.
