Curves in Concert at Segerstrom Concert Hall
Segerstrom Center for the Arts is proud to present the West Coast premiere of Curves in Concert — a special concert experience based on Real Women Have Curves: The Musical, featuring members of the original Broadway cast and directed by Tony® Award winner Sergio Trujillo. Featuring show-stopping songs including “Make It Work” and “Flying Away,” Curves in Concert brings the heart, humor, and resilience of the beloved Broadway musical to life through music, storytelling, and a vibrant live ensemble.
Set in a garment factory in East Los Angeles, Real Women Have Curves: The Musical follows a close-knit community of women and Ana, a first-generation daughter of Mexican immigrants, as she navigates family expectations, body image, ambition, and the pull between staying home or pursuing her dreams in New York City. The story explores themes of identity, immigration, generational relationships, and womanhood with warmth and honesty.
The musical features a Tony-nominated score by Grammy® Award–winning songwriter Joy Huerta (Jesse & Joy) and Benjamin Velez (Kiss My Aztec), a book by Lisa Loomer (Girl, Interrupted) with Nell Benjamin (Mean Girls), music supervision by Nadia DiGiallonardo (Waitress), and choreography and direction by Tony® Award winner Sergio Trujillo (Ain’t Too Proud). The work is based on Josefina López’s acclaimed 1990 stage play.
