South Coast Plaza Shopping: Where One Great Discovery Leads to Another

Step indoors into South Coast Plaza and you’re immediately in the center of style, flavor, and discovery. This isn’t your average shopping mall. It’s a Costa Mesa experience. South Coast Plaza shopping spreads across two connected buildings anchored by four high-end department stores, with Nordstrom, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Saks Fifth Avenue bookending wings that hold hundreds of boutiques.

Wander through curated luxury. Gucci, Prada, Dior, Cartier and Tiffany & Co. sit close together for effortless browsing. It’s the West Coast’s exclusive home to designer brand boutiques like Courrèges, Dior Beauty and Fueguia 1833, something shoppers fly in from out of state and abroad to visit. The flagship windows and the architecture are worth the walk on their own.

Between the designer floors sit more brands you know and love, such as Reformation, Anine Bing, Aritzia, Anthropologie, Sandro, and Maje. At South Coast Plaza, get lost in the beauty and fragrance selections, explore watches and jewellery galore, and don’t forget to grab a bite to eat.

The Dish on South Coast Plaza’s Dining

South Coast Plaza’s culinary landscape is full of flavor and resists being called “typical.”  Go European and grab a fast caffè and a pastry between stops, sit down and be served a proper two-hour dinner, or land somewhere in the middle at a bar overlooking a courtyard. With about 30 to choose from, dining at South Coast Plaza is less a break from the day than a reason to stay in it.

For a meal that becomes the reason you came, book ahead at Collage Culinary Experience or Water Grill for their always fresh, raw bar. AnQi Bistro does Vietnamese-French cooking with a runway down the middle of the dining room and a happy hour that draws a crowd. When you want something faster but still worth sitting down for, Din Tai Fung offers hand-folded dumplings and modern dim sum. Reservations are worth making for weekend evenings, especially before a Segerstrom Center for the Arts performance, when the dining rooms fill with the pre-show crowd. Most restaurants here also have private dining rooms if you’re planning a celebration.
