Dana Wharf Sportfishing was founded in 1958 by Don Hansen, who operated several sportfishing boats at the San Clemente Pier. He moved his operation to Dana Point Harbor in 1971 and renamed it Dana Wharf Sportfishing & Whale Watching. Dedicated to helping both locals and tourists enjoy the unique wonders of Dana Point Harbor and the Orange County coastline, Dana Wharf Sportfishing & Whale Watching has a fleet of sportfishing boats that specialize in local coastal fishing.

The warm waters inside and outside Dana Point Harbor abound with sea life including whales, dolphins, harbor seals and California sea lions. Fishing trips are available daily all year round. Catches include Calico Bass, Sand Bass, Barracuda, Bonito, Halibut, Rock Fish and Yellow tail. The Blue Whale season is from May through October and the Gray Whale migration occurs from November through April.

The boats belonging to Dana Wharf Sportfishing & Whale Watching are well maintained and kept clean, and they and offer a full galley with hot and cold food, beer, soda, chips and candy. Rods and reels are available for rent and a day license for anyone over 16 years of age is required. All boats are available for private charter including fishing boats, a 63-ft. catamaran, 6-passenger fishing yachts, and specialty sailboats for private fishing and whale watching trips, corporate events and team building, parties, burials at sea and fundraising events.
